IAL recently celebrated the induction of its new NW NSW Regional Committee Officeholders: Jim Purcell as Treasurer, George Truman as Secretary, and Lambert & Torrens’ own Ben Lee as Chairman.
Ben and his two brothers are the owners of Lambert & Torrens Gunnedah, serving the Northern NSW region. Raised on a family farm outside Gunnedah, Ben eventually moved to Brisbane to attend University and train as an accountant. In 2006, he moved to London and spent several years working in Investment Banking at Barclays Capital, as well as completing a Masters of Finance at London Business School.
In 2013, he moved to Sydney to join Macquarie Bank in their Agriculture Investment Team, working across their Livestock and Cropping Investments.
When the opportunity arose to acquire Lambert & Torrens in 2015, Ben jumped at the chance. He and his young family left the city and moved back home to Gunnedah, and the Lee brothers took the reigns of the long-lived Lambert & Torrens Irrigation Pumping Company.
As Lambert & Torrens Director, Ben is keen to explore technological developments in the industry, such as solar powered irrigation. And now, in his additional role as Irrigation Australia’s Regional Chairman, Ben can assist in growing IAL’s presence and promoting the efficient use of water in irrigation.
IAL is determined to develop improved standards of irrigation for professionals and projects throughout Australia. IAL believes that the development of networking programs, such as industry training, promoting certification, regional networking events, meetings, and IAL publications will greatly assist in the achievement of this objective.
The NSW regional committee works with IAL to implement its vision, and we have no doubt that Ben will use his role as Regional Chairman to work towards a more sustainable irrigation future.
